My name is Emma Archibald, and I’m from Fall River, Nova Scotia. I was born with Amniotic Band Syndrome and corrected clubbed feet, meaning I am missing some of my fingers and toes. Growing up, I was always active in a wide range of sports, but in June 2019 my athletic journey shifted when I attended a Paralympic Search event in Halifax. There, I was identified as a strong prospect for Para Nordic skiing.
That fall, I was connected with the Nova Scotia Provincial Ski Team, who welcomed me warmly into the skiing community. In November 2019, I attended a Paranordic Development Camp in Canmore, Alberta, where I stepped onto cross-country skis for the first time. Through the rest of my Grade 11 year and into Grade 12, I continued to develop my skiing with the NS Ski Team.
After high school, I began a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Ottawa and joined the UOttawa Nordiq Ski Team. Under Head Coach Sheila Kealey—who strongly believes in keeping athletes of all levels engaged in sport during their university years—I trained on the Nakkertok and Gatineau Park trail systems as I prepared for my early race seasons.
I am now currently a member of the Canadian Paranordic National Next Gen Team while continuing to complete my Nursing degree part-time in Ottawa.
